Sample Teaching Materials

My teaching philosophy is an important document that sheds some light on my past experiences as a student and into my evolution of becoming a teacher. It highlights my goals, teaching style, and the impact I hope to make on students while in my teaching career.

This syllabus is used for a COMM 2420: Business and Professional Communication course of 25 students held every Tuesday evening from 6 - 9 p.m. during the Fall 2015 semester. COMM 2420 meets the requirement for a public speaking course required for most majors at East Carolina University.

This is a lecture I gave as a Teaching Assistant for COMM 2420: Business and Professional Communication in the Spring of 2015. I used this lecture, and conducted the class activity provided at the end of the lecture.

Feedback from Graduate Assistantship Semester Evaluations

“Missy is a strong teacher. She is also very quick to respond to constructive feedback and apply it. It was a pleasure to work with her. We need more teachers with the level of commitment she has demonstrated both to teaching and to providing useful, focused feedback to students."

Dr. Rebecca Dumlao, Summer 2015
"Missy is easy to work with, creative, and organized. I occasionally had to call on her to do tasks in a moment's notice and she was always willing to help."

Dr. Mary Tucker-McLaughlin, Spring 2015

"Melissa did everything asked of her, and did so in a diligent and timely manner without ever requiring any kind of prompting from me and very little supervision."
